Tackling anti-social behaviour thanks to the Dulverton Trust

The Dulverton Trust distributes its grant making in Wales through the Community Foundation in Wales and supports community groups and local charities across Wales that meet the following objectives:

One of the projects funded by the fund this year was the Tanyard Youth Project. The project, based in Pembroke, offers alternative distractions to offending, vandalism, substance misuse and anti-social behaviour by offering themed activities exploring issues such as drugs, human rights, legal and moral crimes.

The project was awarded a grant of £2,800 from the Dulverton Trust Fund to develop a 14-week course to target young people displaying anti-social behaviour, incorporating activities such as a cycle ride, a survival day, an overnight stay in the Tanyard Youth Centre and a hike.

One of the young men, who attended the course, had persistently been getting into trouble in the town, enjoying causing chaos wherever he went.  The group explained that:

“By participating in this work, the young man has come to terms with his unacceptable behaviour and has been doing his best to make amends.”

He is now a trusted senior member and the chairman of the new Youth Council.
