Powys Eisteddfod supported by Ashley Family Foundation
A grant of £5,000 helped Powys Eisteddfod, in the centenary year of the forming of its 'orsedd, to hold a very successful two day event in Llanfair Caereinion. Competitors travelled from all over Wales to attend and near capacity crowds enjoyed the two day event at the local Leisure Centre.
The event in Llanfair Caereinion has reinforced (and in some cases instilled) strong community co-operation. It has ensured that Welsh traditions and heritage continues and that there is an appreciation of them. It has given opportunities for people of all ages and all abilities to perform and compete though music, poetry and dance.
A local class of Welsh Learners competed during the two days. The Eisteddfod provided opportunities through literature, craft and stage competitions, for group members to practise their newly acquired language and supported them to intergrate into the local community with ease. It was also an opportunity for them to gain an understanding of, and experience first hand, traditions within Eisteddfods such as the Gorsedd ceremony.
The event was well planned and organised thanks to funding from the Ashley Family Foundation, enabling approximately 2,000 people to enjoy an event rich with Welsh culture, history and tradition. New concepts such as the development of a website were introduced, which will support the success of the next event already planned for 2014 in Glyn Ceiriog.
The grant also enabled the organisation to leverage in a further £1,335 of funding from James Pantyfedwen Foundation and the Park Jones Trust.
