The Community Foundation in Wales is thrilled to announce that we have received our first £1million gift, the largest single gift from a private donor the Foundation has received to date! Through his gift Dr Davies has established his own personal Endowment Fund as part of the Fund for Wales, joining the growing community of philanthropists who support our endowment building campaign.
The Dr Davies Endowment Fund will support a wide range of projects across a particular area, specified by Dr Davies, in South West Ceredigion and North West Carmarthenshire. As an endowment fund this gift will continue to benefit inspiring community projects and local charities for generations to come, awarding around £30,000 year on year. Dr Davies’ Fund has also benefited from our endowment match challenge, thanks to the Big Lottery Fund. This means that projects across the whole of Wales will benefit from the match which Dr Davies’ Fund has triggered, making a difference to his local community and others across Wales.
“It is incredibly humbling when you meet people like Dr Davies. He wanted to give something back to the part of Wales he grew up in and has chosen to do this through his own personal fund with the Community Foundation in Wales. Thanks to Dr Davies’ philanthropic giving this small part of rural Wales will receive substantial investment, helping local people to achieve inspiring things in their community. We’d like to express our thanks to Dr Davies from all at the Community Foundation in Wales, and on behalf of all who will benefit, diolch yn fawr!”

“I’ve never felt like I needed to spend much money on myself, and I’ve been able to support my own family so when I realized how much money I had I knew exactly where I wanted it to go. I grew up in this part of Wales and wanted to support this area with my Fund, but I’m also really pleased that my gift will help communities across the whole of Wales through the Fund for Wales match challenge. I’m looking forward to hearing about the great work of the local projects we’ll be able to support. Having given away £1million I don’t feel any poorer.”
