Mid Rhondda is an area in Rhondda Cynon Taff, based around the Rhondda Fawr Valley including the places of Tonypandy, Trealaw, Penygraig, Dinas, Clydach and Llwynypia. As a Communities First area, Mid Rhondda has been identified as severely deprived. However the many voluntary and community groups in the area are working to turn this around, and with the help of Fourteen the community will be building on its existing values to create and maintain new activities for local people.
In June 2015, the Mid Rhondda Panel awarded grants to 6 community groups totalling £8,620.
Cambrian & Clydach Vale Boys & Girls Club £1,500 To provide a seven day introductory course for up to 10 young people to increase participation in the Clubs activities.
Cambrian Village Trust £1,400 To Develop Turn Up and Play Centres for boys and girls to increase participation in physical activity.
Friends of Cwmclydach Countryside Park £1,240 To hold an 'open day' at the Lakeside Cafe to advertise the Friends of organisation and increase the number of volunteers.
Friend of Tonypandy Community College £1,400 To run intergenerational workshops to develop a memorial to commemorate WW1.
Madfrogs - St Gabriel and St Raphael RC Primary School PFTA £1,480 To train parents and families in the use of sports bags to encourage participation at home and develop physical development skills in children.
New Horizons Mental Health CIO £1,500 To establish the ‘Making It’ art and craft group for adults with mental health issues who live in Mid Rhondda.
Rhondda Sea Cadets £1,500 To run a Sea Cadet training programme which can be delivered at no cost to increase the number of disadvantaged young people participating.
