Philanthropy Week 2012

18th - 26th October 2012

October 2012 will see Wales’ second annual Philanthropy Week managed by the Community Foundation in Wales. A range of events will be held across the nation to celebrate, promote and inspire philanthropy.

These include: a symposium a symposium exploring the value of venture philanthropy; talks on philanthropy in the arts; and an afternoon tea exploring how philanthropy in Gwent is meeting local needs around the challenges of inspiring young people and crime prevention.

The highlight of the week is the annual Philanthropy Reception at which three philanthropists will be recognised for their contribution to the leadership of philanthropy in Wales.

Liza Kellett, Chief Executive of the Community Foundation in Wales explained, "The Foundation’s purpose is to promote and manage philanthropy in Wales. On behalf of our philanthropic clients - individuals, business and trusts, the Foundation has invested almost £1.7million this year in 364 community groups and 71 individuals across Wales. These grants have had a significant impact on local projects and communities and have benefitted 36,000 people across the country. Our Philanthropy Week explores, celebrates and inspires charitable giving. It is kindly supported by businesses, charities and institutions which are committed to supporting the work of local people and projects in strengthening communities."

Included in the week of events will be the launch of a new fund, the Denbighshire Community Endowment Fund. This fund will allow access to local individuals and groups across Denbighshire to access funding from a single source.
